Dave "Collie Leroy" Leighow photos from the 60's. Dave says it was an interesting way he came about getting the nickname Collie Leroy. While he was at Herzo Base he and a ? Masterson who was also from the "south" decided Dave Leighow didn't sound "southern" enough and came up with the name Collie Leroy. (Anyone want to bet maybe this name was spawned at the Hezo Base EM Club?) The name stuck and "Collie Leroy" was the name most of us know him by ..... Dave says when he returned to the "real world" he returned to his real name. As you can see my reality is still "Collie Leroy" and Dave says when he contacted Bill "Whiskeyman" Schmidt that Bill said he didn't know a Dave Leighow! Dave says there are more pictures on the way. Sept. 30, 2002 - Jim De Pouw says: The Masterson Collie LeRoy refers to could be Billy Manderson from Alabama. He was totally southern and totally goofy.

Manderson!! That's right--Billy Manderson was exactly who gave me the nickname Collie Leroy. My thanks to Jim for remembering. He was, indeed, from Alabama and though I don't remember a lot about him, I do remember he was pretty southern--more so than me, I think; and he did have a rather bizarre sense of humor.
