The gang began to "assemble" Friday afternoon to view
the Mike Carroll's "slide show". Folks had a chance to visit and
remember Hoherbogen and Schneeberg while Mike searched Columbus for a
35mm projection bulb ..... Bill and Jim unrolled their "Det K scroll"
from a former reunion and Dick still tried to convince Jim to trade the
Det K sign for his Achtung sign ... still no deal! Then off to
Schmidt's Sausage Haus. The food and friendship was marvelous.
Then back to the the hotel to listen to more "tall tales" from the past.
My
journey took me on to northern Ohio but Jim reports: " Saturday morning
we all had breakfast together and then that
afternoon we went to lunch at an Irish pub up the street. Had a ball.
Harold Standifer drove in on Sat afternoon and joined us. Man it was
good to see him and all of u guys. Saturday night a few of us went to
church just down the street from Schmitts Sausage house and after, all
parties went to Max and Ermma's in Germantown. That was unlike any Max
and Ermma's that I have ever seen. The century old building plus the
unique old world style interior made it special. Dick had a few rough
moments but was typical Routt. His sense of humor and attitude were an
inspiration to us. What a memory he has for the days at Rimbach and
Schneeberg. All in all it was a great reunion and weekend. Hope you have
a great time at the Easter reunion! Thanks again Phil
for all of your hard work organizing Columbus. It is greatly
appreciated!!! Jim D"
